3G hangs during iOS4 installation

I'm trying to install iOS4 on my 3G. I already have upgraded iTunes to 9.2.
Now, when I try to upgrade iOS, it hangs forever on the "backing up iPhone" window. It's the third trial now, Already 20 minutes gone, but the blue, progress bar is neither at 10% of the full length...

Is this so slow? Should I let it all night long?

It seems like it is widespread that backing up takes a while on the iOS 4 upgrade. It will eventually work - just be patient.

OK then, I'll let it go...will take an on-line zen course, while I'm waiting...

One thing that I ended up doing was trashing the back up altogether. If you have backed up recently, you can just restore it from that backup after installing. What you need to do is follow these instructions. They worked for me and took about 10 minutes.
