3g in my area TODAY

So i finally decided to call a friend of mine which manages an ATT store where i live and asked about 2 things. Of course about the 3g iphone and when Shreveport Louisiana would be 3g capable. To my surprise she told me they added it today. that is why att was having issues in my area. She could not confirm a new iphone but said 3g is up and running and they are working the kinks out. Woooo Hoooo. I dont know anything about 3g technology. How is it compared to WIFI?

WiFi is still faster, but 3G makes huge speed gains over EDGE. It's pretty good speed for being out and about, but it's sure not a Gigabit connection.
