Upon upgrading my iPhone from 3GS to iPhone 4, I notice blazing 3g speed. I've actually gone from 800 download / 300 upload to 4500 download/ 1300 upload. Nice. Yet even though the iPad has the same chip, my speed is 700/250. Sure, there's more RAM in the new phone, but that can't account for that kind of speed increase. Is this purely a function of the 4.0 software? Anyone else's iPad seem now painfully sluggish? Do we think the upgrade to iPad 4.0 software in, sigh, November, will make this wonderful device zippier?

Just tested my iPad again on speedtest.net. 23.22 / 19.40 Mbps. About the same as my desktop.

Are you sure it's the same chip? I thought I read that it has the same as the 3GS and the new iPhone has a different one...

Also, the 23/19 speedtest mentioned above is on wifi, right?

Oh, sorry, I didn't pay attention, that OP was referring to 3G.

I just tested and got 2512 Kbps download on 3G.

800 download?!? That's terrible. I usually get at least 2.5k at home. I will confirm that 3G in general sucks though, I remember when I first switched from evdo to 3G and was amazed at how much slower it was. Can't wait for an evdo or 4g iPhone.
