3G iPhone Arriving in 2nd Quarter 2008?

Analyst predictions of a 3G iPhone are nothing new, but a new report points to specific sources knowledgeable about this anticipated update. After meeting with Taiwanese electronics companies Citigroup’s Richard Gardner claims that his sources have confirmed that the 3G iPhone will be released in 2nd Quarter calendar year. If correct, this would pinpoint the release between April-June 2008.

3G is the next generation wireless data that promises much faster speeds over the EDGE technology in existing iPhones. Apple's Steve Jobs has said that existing 3G chipsets drew too much power for them to be used in the original iPhone. Recent advances in wireless chipset technology have reportedly addressed these power consumption issues. Coincidentally, AT&T recently announced that they are expanding their 3G network to nearly 350 U.S. markets by the end of 2008.

Plans for a 3G iPhone have been well publicized, with comments by Steve Jobs and AT&T's CEO suggesting the 3G iPhone is coming in 2008.

Release this and bump capacity to 32GB and I am there day one, Apple. Add a wifi iChat application and I'm there day negative one.
 
Good news. When the iPhone was first released, I didn't really have a use for 3G because my city wasn't covered yet. Now it is. :) I'm looking forward to this update and will be happy to sell my current iPhone when the time comes.
 
Now all I need is for AT&T to offer 3G coverage in my area...regardless i'll still be picking up a revised iPhone.
 
Well they do need a 3G phone to roll out to some places (Japan) and really to help it sell in Europe.

I was expecting them to wait until September, but it's probably worth getting out before that so the worldwide rollout can begin.
 
Now I can finally give my EDGE phone to the wife and take the 3G phone!

SDK and 3G iPhone in June up and running!!!

I get the impression that it uses less battery, so for the US which has an extensive EDGE network it makes sense.

If they don't make an iChat program for the iPhone, they should at least make one for the iPod Touch, even though it would be a bit pointless for them to then not release it for the iPhone.

SMS and iChat arent related whatsoever. You cant always IM someone, period. Every phone on the market has an AIM option. But the revolutionary iphone doesnt?! Give me a break.
 
3G question: I am under the impression that T-Mobile's 3G, is on a different frequency/wavelength, than ATT's.

Is that indeed true?

If that is the case I wonder if that would affect the number of people who are buying and unlocking cell phones to use with other providers. - something I have been considering (T-Mobile).
 
When it comes to a 3G iPhone, I will wait for Apple to announce it. The rumors around 3G have been horrible and it seems like there are 3 or 4 new ones each day from "an inside source." It will happen, but I am still guessing not til late 2008.
