Hey guys,

New to the forum, (first post). Been reading this for a while, i got an iphone, had it for a few months here in the UK.

I read on another article on the home page, that SJ is still expecting to sell 10m iphones in 2008.

Wouldnt announcing a new 3G version effect sales big time? especially if v2 will be released in q2.

In the UK, people sign up to a 18month contract. If v2 is released by the end of the year, people will hold out for the new version.

Forgive me if i got it wrong here....

Yeah, they will hold out. Thats why Steve has been ramping down the production of the edge version of the phone. Most likely its because the new one is coming soon.

iPhone old

In the UK i think the reason we have experienced bad sales is because of the better phones available. Not talking about the interface or the revolutionary design etc im talking about the package overall. People can go to orange or tmobile and get like unlimited texts etc for about 30 quid (60 dollars) and a good phone thrown in for free.

If they want a 3G phone with MSN and Skype they can go to three mobile and get something like the Nokia N85 or whatever its called and pay about 25 quid a month.

in terms of mobile phones the iPhone is OLD. Its been out here 8 months, a year in the states. Can you imagine Nokia asking 269 or 329 quid for something thats over a year old.

Come on apple RELEASE IT ALREADY

This could be an obvious question but, now with the new 3g iphone, would it be updated through the update in June or whenever the next update will be, or will the new 3g iphone need a whole new hardware update, I had always thought that it would need a new phone/hardware, but i just wanted to make sure.

lol you guys better pray steve jobs lets you turn 3G off and only use GSM if you want because otherwise you might not make it through a day on a battery charge.

I just thought of something in another thread, but I didn't want to hijack it so I'm gonna post it here.

When Apple finally gets around to adding 3G to the iPhone, how will they deal with the different "flavors" of 3G internationally? Will they manufacture different chipsets for separate countries with different 3G bands, like 850/1900MHz for AT&T, 1900/2100MHz for Europe, and 800MHz for Japan(?) and Australia(?)? Or might iPhone 2.0 be the first five-band 3G phone?

Damnit that's right. Was planning on importing a 3G iPhone. Takes propably abother few months till it arrives here in good old Europe...

Thats funny, I haven't seen "any" "News" regarding "the" 3G iPhone.
It wouldn't supprise me at all to see 3G skipped for a rollout of 4G or WiMAX
<snip> Apple has no reason to launch a new iPhone now.<snip>.

You sure should check out some more threads then
Hmm - The true SDK (non-beta) release, conference time, iPhone news anniversary, big touchscreen deliveries, earliest big batch releases of the relevant chips, markets ready for opening, competitors releasing rivals by 3Q 08, App store opening, SDK roadmap timing, length of time since first version, lack of 3G in Europe and elsewhere (where 3G models are standard). We can expand if you want us to...

3G iPhone and 2nd generation hardware iPhone are used interchangably on the forum as it's taken for granted that Apple will have 3G in the next major iPhone handset update.

Seth Weintraub has the main arguements - and they've been expanded and reviewed elsewhere on the Macrumors forums.

I think it's worthwhile looking at when's most likely, and an announcement of shipping date at the least by 2Q 08 is most likely. 2Q 08 is a good a date to start from as any. I don't see anyone giving a decent argument with data against this date really currently.

The next handset update will sell better than hotcakes. It'll sell more than the current handset by the logic of sales up till June, versus sales needed to get to 10 million by the end of the year.

Most people who've wanted an iPhone have one? BS. Those that do i'd vouch are more likely to upgrade to a new one anyhow. What's the rate of buying iPods or handsets usually again?

Once the iPhone comes with 3G and the SDK apps are in full swing, I will buy an iPhone. Until then, it is an under featured device for how much it costs. Horizontal keyboard for texting would be greeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaat
