Not via software like the original, but there are/maybe hardware solutions, like TurboSIM.

I am getting a 3G coming, with a SIM wafer. Sadly that is the only way to get an unlocked iPhone 3G.

Make sure you bring the wafer with you if you plan to go out of the country, and use any prepaid service.
