Au contraire. The lighted buttons are a thing of beauty. :D

I told myself after the 4th generation iPods came out that I wouldn't buy another one unless they either upgraded the functionality of the iPod's ability to listen to music (ie, AM/FM radio), or they put backlit buttons on the click-wheel. So I never upgraded.. I need the space, but it's not worth $400 (to me) to put my whole library on my iPod.

I think the 3rd gens were a work of beauty. I loved and used mine so much it doesn't work any more. I'm thinking about trading my 5th gen 30gb for one in decent shape.
what about a beat up 10 gig? the battery can last (if I push it) for a weekends' worth of use. PM me if you're interested in trading

I love the backlit buttons. Wonderful, beautiful. I've only bought one iPod since - a shuffle - because they don't have backlist buttons and I hate click wheels.

I love the look of these 3rd gen iPods and how sensitive the touch-wheel is, But compared to the clickwheel ipods you can see that the 3rd gens have some draw backs. The screen wash out really easy and you have to turn the contrast up to see them correctly. Even with updated software they are quirky, and not half as smooth as a 4th gens. I have three 15GB 3rd Gens all with new batteries in them. Which really juice them up good. A Fresh fully charged battery can last a little over 8 hours in a 3rd gen. But I do like the look of the 3rd gens. I'm now looking for a 5GB 1st gen to rebuild for myself as a collector piece.
