The 3G Network was down this AM but it did not auto switch to the older 2G Network. You had to DISABLE 3G to use your phone. This was confirmed by AT&T.

So, if you have no service you may want to try disabling 3G.
 
Problems all morning and this afternoon here in Los Angeles. Turned off 3G and it helped.
