3g not restoring apps!!!

So heres my dilemma.

I broke my 3gs screen/lcd, but can still plug it into my mac and back it up.

My friend solde his old 3g that has 4.2 OS on it ( 3gs had the latest 4.1...)

When I try to restore my 3g to the backup of my 3gs, it installs all the contacts/texts, but not any of my apps, and also, none of my music!

Help!

Do you have the applications tab checked to install?

Yea all the tabs are checked to restore everything, even music, just keeps restoring without apps or music.

Apps and music are synced. Are you saying when you sync, they won’t sync?

Yes, exactly, everything syncs except music and apps.
