    Hi there,

I've got a problem with the speeds of 3G data (voice is fine) in Cambridge, MA. Last week it was 'good', i.e., in excess of 500 kbit/s, but now if I can connect at all it's less than 50 kbit/s. Even EDGE is faster. FYI, I've always had 5 bars of 3G coverage and do so now.

I live in Harvard Square, which is where the problem is worst, but can drive to other areas in Cambridge and get great speeds (800 kbit/s or so).

I've been playing phone tag with AT&T and Apple this week. Apple gave me a replacement phone (still no joy) and AT&T 'reprovisioned' my account and gave me a new SIM. No luck at all! AT&T say that there's no problem with any of the 3G cell sites in my area.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

    Thanks all, Dan.

It's a network problem, and if fixes from AT&T and Apple have done nothing, then you're stuck. Sorry, but there is a problem with that area, perhaps something in the area that is weakening the data transfer capabilities of the signal

Thanks for your reply. I don't get why the speeds used to be fine and now they're terrible. The amazing thing is that it's affecting vast swathes of Cambridge (total population 100,000).

Anyway, I've contacted AT&T who said that they'll try and send an engineer out to see what's up. Doubtless they'll say all is fine, even though it's clearly not!
