    Hey guys. I've searched around and couldn't find the answer i'm looking for, so I just figured I would ask.

    I haven't got the actual phone yet, getting a brand new one from someone next week. Thing is that he's with Rogers, and I would like to use it with Fido. I don't believe that a SIM card is going to be included, and I was wondering if it is possible to do the unlock without one?

    From how i've read everything, it seems;

    I can use Pwnagetool to create the custom firmware and activate it (allowing for operation of the iPhone, yes?)

    I could then use Cydia or Installer to install yellowsn0w?

    I could then go to Fido and activate the phone with them?

    And while I'm asking a stupid question, when I get it on Fido, will I still be able to use everything? (Visual Voicemail, 3G, etc) As in, the unlocking process doesn't break anything?

    Thanks for the help!

    If it's a brand new phone it will more then likely come with the 2.2.1 firmware installed. Apple updated the baseband in this version of the firmware, rendering Yellowsn0w useless; as a result it cannot be used to unlock phones with 2.2.1. Downgrading to an earlier firmware apparently won't work either, as it doesn't downgrade the baseband with it.

    The baseband actually is downgradable, as long as it is on the 2.30.03 baseband, and the 5.8 bootloader.
    OP, don't worry, you're fine.

    thanks for the replys.

    What do you guys think are the chances it will come with the 5.8 bootloader?

    since it is impossible to do at this time on 5.9?

    If your iPhone was made before September 2008, you're in luck.;)

    I just got my repaired iphone back from Apple and it now has Bootloader 5.09

    Does this mean that i will never be able to unlock it? Or is there people actively working on the downgrade for bootloader 5.09 as they did for 5.08?

    I'm sure that they will eventually create a downgrader for 5.9.

    Uhh it takes that amount of tweaking just to see the bootloader version? It seems 10x more complicated than Jailbreaking. Oo
