3G vs wifi - speed question?

I always thought 3G was supposed to be faster, but in my experience wifi is always faster when accessing the internet. What is your experience?

WiFi is supposed to be faster than 3G. Real proper 4G can sometimes be faster than wifi though.

That is false.
Verizon 3G is slow to begin with.
Wifi in most cases will be faster and use less battery.
