I have a MBP with intel C2D 2.33 Ghz (Calistoga chipset). It's supposed to only support 3 GB of memory. I just installed a pair of Crucial 2GB sticks, and when I go to 'About This Mac' it shows memory as 4GB. System Profiler also shows memory as 4GB.

Surely it isn't actually using all 4GB? The Calistoga can only address 3.2 GB or something like that, so why does it show 4 GB?

Yes it will show 4GB because that's what it is, but in reality for use if you to Activity Monitor it will only show 3GB.
