3gs 3.1.2 serial is xxx44xxxx

I'm doing this JB because the first and foremost thing is i need to unlock it.

Can I do this and if it messes up can I just restore to 3.1.2, or do i have to go for 3.1.3

You can JB with redsn0w 0.9.2. If something goes wrong and you're forced to restore it will be to 3.1.3.

you have the new bootrom so you have to plug in to the computer everytime you reboot

You are WRONG. MC serial numbers indicate a tethered JB on an IPOD TOUCH ... On a 3Gs, MC/MB means next to nothing.

@ OP: With a week 44 it's very high likely hood of a tethered JB .

With a week 44 phone it is very likely a tethered JB. Put your device into DFU mode and check your iboot version through either USB view (pc) or your system profiler (mac) there are guides all over the forum on how to get your device into DFU mode.

If i put into DFU mode. What iBoot version am I looking for ?

Also if I do this and find out I do not have a good iBoot version will i have to restore to 3.1.3?

If you have iboot 359.3 it's an untethered JB. If it's 359.3.2, it's tethered. Absolutely do not restore the 3.1.3, then you won't be jailbreakable no matter which bootrom you have.

NO. After you have put it in DFU and checked your iboot, unplug the device and hold the power and Home buttons together to get it to reboot normally.

Saved me having to put it back into 3.1.3 I'm not going to bother JB it to just tether it
