3GS 4.0 JB/Unlock possible if it was not unlocked before?

I'm about to buy a used 3GS from someone who have been using stock phone, never JB and never unlocked. He updated the phone to 4.0 today.

With the above in mind, will the upcoming release be able to jb/unlock said phone?

(Also...should I buy it? Used 16GB 3GS for 200, I'm currently using a 2G )

Ul is already out but dev-team is still working on the 4.0 jailbreak should be out very soon though. go ahead and buy it.

I don't need the JB yet, just the unlock so...

Basically all 3GS can be unlocked at this point? But you have to JB before you unlock right?

you need jb before unlock yes, us 3gs owners are still waiting.

If you buy it, put 3.1.3 on it to jailbreak and unlock. Depending on the iBoot version, you may be able to jailbreak 4.0 when Pwnage Tool for 4.0 is released (maybe later today).

NO. Apple stopped signing 3.1.3 yesterday. You're screwed with 4.0

The jailbreak that's coming out, is it EXPECTED to be able to jb and unlock the newest official firmware/baseband?
