Ok so I tried to jailbreak and unlock my 3GS (new one) with the new redSn0w. It worked initially but then after I installed ultraSn0w in cydia and rebooted it got stuck on the apple logo. I can't restore normally as I get error 1015. I tried Recboot but to no avail. I have also tried to rejailbreak using redsn0w but that gets so far and when it has to restart during installation I get the connect to iTunes screen. Any have any advice please?

be prepare to put on your flame suit for calling it 'bricked'. sorry no help here from me, i dont use redsnow or ultrasnow. good luck.

LOL!

Anyways, use Tiny Umbrella to kick it out of recovery if it's stuck on the USB > Itunes screen.

And when you boot the iPhone, you HAVE TO BOOT IT WITH REDSNOW since it is tethered. Open up Redsnow(Make sure the iPhone is off) and click on the Boot tethered option instead of Install Cydia box. Follow the steps on the screen to boot tethered.

When I use the boot tethered option redsn0w says its done but the phone just restarts and goes into recovery again.

Did you successfully update the baseband to 6.15? Use Tiny Umbrella to kick it out of recovery and then go to settings>General>About>modem firmware. Also are you on 4.1 or 4.2.1?

Nooo he said Bricked!
The people here are saying the truth with TU!

(cant brick an iphone.. yet :D)

OK folks I have fixed it! *massive sigh of relief* for those who want to know how..... I used pwnage tool to create a custom firmware, i then put the iphone in pwnage dfu mode and restored it. This did not work on its own though, i got an error message in itunes and it still would not boot so I then used Tiny Umbrella to get it to boot. Then even managed to unlock it too afterwards! happy days. Thanks for your help guys I had never heard of Tiny umbrella. what a life saver. Took 3 hours to fix it! sometimes my stubbornness pays off.

I have the same issue! except that NOTHING works for me.

Pwnage tool wont let me make custom ispw for 4.2.1 - it says wrong firmware selected. I try making 4.1, but later, this causes error 1600 in itunes.

Tried Redsn0w, doesn't work. Worked initially, but now says unexpected error.

Stuck on apple logo and sometimes "connect to itunes", and have tried everything i can think of!

Wait. I don't understand.

So you are saying that pwnage actually fix a bricked iPhone? I thought a bricked iPhone cannot be fixed?

You can't brick an iPhone ;). Well maybe if you drop it in a puddle and then you roll over it with a truck or something... So I guess it is possible to brick an iPhone. Hehe.

lol. Yeah i know that. I am just laughing at the OP for saying pwnage tool fixed the 'bricked' iPhone.

Would be option be the same for iphone 3g that's stuck at recovery?

I'm desperate :( I hope someone can help! I'm relatively new to jailbreaking and my iphone 3g 4.2, 6.15 is stuck at the restore screen. Is there any way to get back to 4.2? (I've tried custom firmware and tiny umbrella restore kicks, but it hasn't made it work :[).

I got stuck in this mess after reading: http://modmyi.com/forums/unlocking-a...ml#post5616861. I thought option A meant to get a fresh 4.2.1 and actually use the at&t sim card instead of bypassing it with redsn0w, which I did the first time.

I was having to charge my iphone 3g 4 times within 5-6 hours, using that second method there. I managed to get 4.1 working, but i have no idea how to get that jb (not redsn0w) and unlocked, and I'm not sure if it would be worse than 4.2.

If someone could help this noob that's been going crazy about this it would be so appreciated!

Where I hope to end up with my 3g: getting it out of recovery mode, pref. back to 4.2 where i don't hacktivate it, and then unlocking it for tmobile use.

Exact same thing happened to me. Couldn't fix it for hours, then I found sn0wbreeze 2.1 and made a custom firmware and restored it to that in DFU mode.

same as my issue with the recovery mode on 3g?
do you think you could you walk me through it?

Here is a post I made yesterday. I am in the process of draining the battery completely to see if I can get the phone to reboot into a DFU/Recovery mode.

I cannot get any computer to recognize the usb connection and I have not been able to get it into the DFU mode. When I try the recovery method I get a particular BSOD on my phone that I have not found anywhere. Perhaps someone here has an answer, because I have posted this issue all over and I have not been able to find a working fix.

Thanks!

I am having the same issue with my friends 3GS. He was running 3.1.3 with firmware 5.12.02. It was too late for me to save his SHSH file using the Tiny Umbrella obviously.

So I went and used the latest Pwnage Tool and made a custom firmware for his 3GS using this IPSW----> (iPhone3,1_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw). Pwnage says it successfuly went into the DFU mode.

I went to iTunes and click option+ restore, selected the Custom Firmware and it went through the normal process of restoring... The only problem is the phone is stucked on recovery mode (Black screen) and I couldn't kick it out of recovery using the Tiny umbrella coz its all grayed out. I tried the process sevral times and its the same outcome... Stuck in recovery mode with a Black screen!

What am I doing wrong?

It seems like everyone is having trouble having their phones stucked in the recovery mode...

Are you serious? No one can actually help me on this? I tried using Redsn0w using 8C148a_Restore.ipsw for my friends 3GS. I selected download Cydia and it goes through the process then it gets an error on the phone with this:

And when I try to restore with the official firmware through iTunes which is the 4.2, this is what its telling me:

and if i try to jailbreak again in cydia i get the error above that swoosh0217 posted.

so please help us. my iphone is whtie 3gs 32gb

and also i don't have mac.

you guys keep asking for help in this thread. We helped the OP look atsome of the things we suggested for him. as we said to him you can't brick a a iPhone most of us that know about the device find the title silly and stopped paying attention to it. suggest you search similar problems and start your own thread but don't put bricked in the title. many of us laugh every time we see it!

I have figured out how to fix the problem. I will post back in 10mins.

I am writting what i did.

first of all if u jailbrked with the ipad firmware with redsnow....and took the risk in order to unlock..now ur iphone has the ipad firmware...and now ur stuck at recovery...and when u try to jailbreak again u get an error (the above picture posted by swoosh0217

here is what i did that helped me, after 2 days of searching.

first of all, (You have to restore to a 4.2.1 custom firmware made with pwnage tool)
since i am on windows operating system, i can't make the custom filmware since pwnage is a mac program.....so what i did is that i searched for one that was already made. the link is below

so 2 things we will need is, 1. the custom firmware made with pwnage, and 2. ireb

NOTE: PLEASE WHEN WE BEGIN, U WILL NEED TO PUT UR IPHONE IN DFU MODE (SCREEN SHOULD BE BLACK) AND NOT RECOVERY MODE.

In recovery mode itune won't let u restore because it will say u can't restore because of that ipad firmware.
In DFU mode: when u try to restore in itunes (with the custom firmware) u will also get an error number...ireb will fix this. :)

oky lets start, i just hope u understood what i wrote above.

here are the steps

first download the custom firmware 4.2.1 for 3gs made with pwnage tool in mac (thanks to the person that uploaded it :)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=6JVZF92E

second. Download ireb http://hotfile.com/dl/82634505/856229a/iREB-4.0.x-4.1-RC2.zip.html

third. put ur iphone in dfu mode and open itunes and shift seletect the custom firmware u downloaded....u should get error like 1601..
if u get the error, open ireb and select iphone 3gs and let it do its thing and when its done now try to restore again with itunes (third step again) and error wont come up again.

then now rejailbreak again with redsnow.
thank you,
