3GS owners did att let you upgrade to the iphone 4 when it was released for $199/$299

Just curious about if att let 3GS owners upgrade last summer to the iphone 4 for discount pricing without paying full retail. I am also curious if att will let us iphone 4 owners upgrade for discount pricing .............

If the main line on the account pays more than $100 a month, the upgrade comes every 12 months for that line. Otherwise, you have to wait 18 months. If you bought your iPhone 4 on release day and pay over $100 on the primary line, you should have an upgrade coming soon enough.

I believe we (I say "we" because "I" was included) got to upgrade early because our monthly bill for the primary line was > $100 for atleast three months, enough to qualify for an upgrade after 12 months instead of the usual 18.

That's the least they could do considering how much money they're making off you.

Myself, I bought a new 3GS exactly one year ago and they still want to rape me for $549 to upgrade. I'll buy one outright before I pay that kind of money tied to a new contract.

I bought my 32GB 3GS on launch day back in 09 and what's funny is, at this time last year AT&T had my eligible upgrade date for last November. Well, after WWDC where SJ mentioned that AT&T was going to let people who were eligible for upgrades in 2010 upgrade to the iPhone 4, AT&T then changed my upgrade date to June.

I was seriously thinking about doing it, but after the antennagate issues, as well as the fact that I'm not crazy about the iPhone 4's design, I decided to stick with my 3GS since it was able to make use of iOS 4. So, I've had upgrade eligibility for about a year now, and I'm among those 3GS owners patiently waiting to see what :apple: comes up with this year for hardware, hopefully sooner rather than later.

my monthly bill is only $65 a month and they let me upgrade for full discount price. I have been with them for 15 years so who knows

Do you know if the $100 is before or after FAN discounts are applied?

The FAN discount is not part of the Monthly Recurring Charges, MRC calculation. The "greater" than $99.99 requirement for the 12 mth equipment upgrade is based on the service rate plan and select features.

Note: not all features qualify in the calculation of the MRC

That's how it used to be. If you made any type of account change (I added that unlimited mobile/texting deal to my previous only-texting option), it's now 18 months regardless (same for new plans)

Does anyone here spend >$100 for their line and is now bumped to an 18 month upgrade? I figure that we can reverse engineer it to some degree.

I do. Family plan, but on my master line the amount is about $115. Other plan members also have October 2011 upgrade date. We signed the contract in May 2010 and upgrade to unlimited texting and mobile calling 3 months ago.

Dunno. I'm still holding out for the next iPhone. The IP4 didn't really draw me in.

I'm with you guys. I can really dig the retina and better camera, but not enough to burn my upgrade for another two years.

Apple really has a lot of pressure to blow us all away, wonder what the designers are all thinking with all this speculation? I hope it's not "man, we better head for the hills because the next iPhone will only be a refresh".

While some people were eligible for upgrade based on the amount they spend per month, AT&T said that anyone who would be eligible in the 2010 calendar year could get the upgrade price.

Were you spending more than $100 for the primary line before the change 3 months ago? From what I understand it takes 3 months before your upgrade date gets moved. Maybe yours will get changed after this billing period.

Yeah it was the same price before that account change (adding unlimited mobile calling is no charge if you already have unlimited texting). On a side note, mine was switched back to May 13 on Friday (got a text) - so I got a white iPhone before they could realize the system issue. :D
