    Hello all,

So I'll try to tell my story about my 3GS which is very interesting:

My 3GS' serial number is xx929xxxxx, which means it was made in the 29th week of 2009. So, it is the OLD BOOTROM.

I don't remember when, but I started to have the following issues:

    • Bluetooth just connects to other device if I am very near to it (like 50 cm / 2 feet)
    • Wi-Fi just connects if I am in the same room as the router. And only if it has a clear path to it (with no obstacles in the way).
    • GPS Location Services are intermittent. If I put NAVIGON on, or any other GPS application, it only gets a signal for one second, then it looses it again and goes minutes withou any signal, until I get again a "one second length" signal!
    • After BB downgrade I got "NO SERVICE" a lot of times.. and many times, a weak signal! But I also noticed that connector #7 is not firmly attached!

    I have tried the following:
    • With a HEATGUN, I tryed to reflow the GPS and WIFI modules of the board. But I don't know it it had sufficient heat to do the trick.
    • I have downgraded the BaseBand to the 05.13.04 using Redsn0w, and probably have "NO SERVICE" because of that?
    • I have replaced the dock connector assembly
    • I have tried it without JB (clean restore)

What I still have to try:
    • Find out if restoring back to iOS4 makes the trick
    • Change the Wi-Fi Antenna assembly for a new one
    • Try to reflow modules in the board with higher temperature (risky)
    • Find some way to firmly attach connector #7 because of "NO SERVICE" issue
    • Make sure that the little gold tab bellow the "DO NOT REMOVE STICKER" is not broken or out of contact with the housing metal band

Do you know any other things that I have to try?
Any of you guys had this issues with a 3GS OLD BOOTROM and solved?

    Thank you in advance.

I'd definitely try the new wifi antenna. That's what did the trick for me.

Also, is that little gold tab broken? (It's down next to the Do Not Remove sticker - for picture.) Apparently if it is, or if it doesn't have good contact with the metal band of the case, it can lead to signal problems.

    WOW! That's Great!

    Thank you for your reply!

I've never noticed the importance of that little gold tab!!! It is not broken (yet :p), mas probably it is not making contact with the metal band of the case!

I'll edit this post for update!

    Thank you once again!
