has anyone tried to tether ipad 2 with iphone 3gs? were you able to use facetime? if not, how about video skype?

It should work fine.

It does not work with an iPhone 3GS.

FaceTime only works when the device is connected to a WiFi signal, and only the iPhone 4 allows you to share your iPhone's 3G signal either through Bluetooth or WiFi (also USB for a Laptop), when using an iPhone 3GS, your only option for tethering is Bluetooth or USB.

I tried this like two weeks ago and I got a Pop Up asking me to go to Settings and connect to a WiFi signal.

I'm not sure about Skype, but Tango worked just fine from an iPod touch tethered to an iPhone 3GS.

This is incorrect. You CAN broadcast wifi on the 3gs. I've broadcasted many of times with my wifes. Download mywi and start broadcasting. connect the iPad2 to your hotspot and facetime away. The 3g speed is actually quite acceptable. I facetime mostly on 3g. :)

I will caviat this post with: You must be jailbroken to download mywi.

That is wrong. You can tether via wifi on 3GS. I've done it before.

Like the guys said above, that is false.
You can get wifi tethering on a 3GS with MyWi.
