3gs to touch

I will be upgrading to the iPhone 4 at launch and have an offer from a friend for my 3gs if I can "convert" it to a glorified iPod touch. Basically, is there a way to give it to him with all functions working except for cell service?

Yeah, just take the SIM out and that's what happens.

I think if you just remove the sim card, it will behave like a touch, as that is what controls cell service.

It won't just lock up with a "no SIM found" error?
