3GS unlocking, does Bootrom still matter?

My 3GS died and have a replacement on the hook from CL.

It's still on 3.xx and BB 5.12. Should I also check the bootrom for old or new or does that not matter any more for jail breaking and unlocking 4.3.2.

No, the boot only mattered for tethered or un tethered jb.

So if it's the old or the new I should beable to jailbreak and unlock. If it's the new bootrom will it be an untethered jailbreak?

Yeah. That baseband is unlockable and the 3GS with the new boot can be untethered JB nowaday.

Yes, you can create a custom JB 4.3.2 ipsw to maintain the unlockable baseband and update to the latest firmware.
It will be untethered even if its new or old bootrom 3GS iphone.

Unless it wasn't clear, you have to preserve your baseband if you want to unlock. Use pwnage tool to JB and tinyumbrella to save your SHSHs...

Thanks, that I know it's just that my old 3GS was the old bootrom so I did not have to worry and did not stay up-to-date on the bootrom news about the newer one.

I just picked up the phone updated to 4.3.2, unlocked it and all set to go.
