I don't understand. My iPhone has worked GREAT since I got it in July 09. It is a 3GS 32GB, with most recent firmware. I synced recently, like 2 days ago, without issue. The battery was 90% charged.

I went to check it about 30 minutes ago, like I do dozens of times per day, and it is completely black-screened. No logo, no nothing. It is like it is still in sleep mode. I've pressed and held the Home button, nothing. I've pressed and held the button on the top right of the cell, nothing. It's completely unresponsive. I plugged it into an Apple wall charger hoping to jar it back to life like an AED, but nothing- Not even the usual chirp or buzz I get when I plug in the charger to the phone.

    Any ideas anyone?

If I try to hold down both buttons simultaneously in an attempt to restore, what will I lose? Settings? Apps? Contacts? Photos?

    Thank you!!!

This has happened to my 32 gb 3GS twice now...The most recent being yesterday. I don't know what causes it, but I know how to bring back its responsiveness. Simply hold down the sleep/power button and home button simultaneously for 10 secondsish until it restarts. Hope Apple figures out what the hell is causing this soon. Hope I helped.

Awesome, I did just that and it worked!!!! Apple Support walked me through it. I didn't lose any texts, or contacts (that I can tell), all my apps and settings are the same. Awesome!!

Apple guy said it seemed to happen if one hasn't turned the phone all the way off and back on every few days, but I just did this two days ago, so I dunno. I did everything right. I was currently synced, well charged, reset the SIM, haven't ever jailbroken, unlocked, or dropped/banged my cell, etc.

Oh well, it's fixed now so I am a happy camper :)

Do what the previous poster said and if this doesn't remedy the issue set up an appointment with a Genius at the Apple Store. Provided you are still under the one year warranty, you could be seeing a new phone or an explanation of the current problem. Good Luck to you!
