3gs wont charge

hi all, my iphone just stopped working yday. It was in my charger all fine when i got up it was dead. i have done some reading about it, but not really got anywhere.
i know the phone works because my gf has a iphone as well so i swapped battery and it worked. itunes detected it and the phone detected the charger (the bat icon changed) but the % kept going down :s.

please help me if you can thanks all.
