The 3rd Generation iPad continues to launch around the world to long lines in many locations. The iPad is launching in ten countries including the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and the UK.

Paris was the most impressive line photo we received. This photo at approximately 10pm local time showed hundreds lined up at Apple's Store in Paris. (Thanks Matthew)

Houston's new Highland Village Apple Store is being unveiled overnight just in time for the iPad 3 launch. (Thanks Matthew)

The U.S. got an early launch at Wal-Mart stores which started selling at 12:01 AM local time. From the few reports we received, lines and stock were relatively small. (Thanks Lee)

Finally, despite launch day availability, there are scalpers in Hong Kong already, looking to take advantage of any short supply. (Thanks Andy)

Those who pre-ordered the new iPad early enough should start receiving them on Friday. The new iPad will also be available in Apple Retail, Wal-Mart as well as Verizon and AT&T stores.

The 4G version is not available for sale in Hong Kong yet :( I really want one.

Waiting for that knock on the door. Going to be a long wait, I know it!

New iPad

Got my new iPad this morning at Osaka, Japan Apple Store. I started queuing at 7AM and got to the counter to purchase at 8:50AM. Overall I'm pleased with the new iPad (upgraded from iPad 2), some noteworthy items from what I've found so far
* Voice dictation works very well overall. I spoke three full sentences and it converted to text perfectly. I think i'll use voice dictation instead of the keyboard in some instances (such as doing a quick google search)
* The new iPad feels noticeably heavier to me
* The screen is amazing when looking at it close or quite close. You can't tell the difference at arms length away. iBooks benefits from the retina disply greatly. I read a chapter of a book in full screen mode and it looks great. I'm looking foward to seeing some retina-display enabled magazines soon (WIRED especially)
* Speed of the device feels exactly the same as the iPad 2. no better and no worse.
* The back-facing camera is a LOT better. The pictures I took are a huge improvement over the iPad 2. I won't use the camera a lot - but I like having a higher quality cam for when I do want to use it.

Ah, those scalpers again.

And they sell them at really inflated prices, nobody should pay more than what the going price is, then those scalpers will run out of business soon.

Got mine tonight at a Walmart in Massachusetts. Walked in at 11:50pm, my gf and I got the last two tickets and we were out of there at 12:20. They only had one box of each kind ie (one box of 16Gb Wifi only, one box of the 64gb wifi + AT&T, etc)

It's about 14 miles away ;)

online sales

you can currently purchase the new iPad in any configuration on walmart.com, and have it shipped to the store for free, and they are listed as "In STOCK"

same for verizon.com

nothing on bestbuy yet

My Walmart had 15 iPads. We sold 8 in 5 minutes, and still have 7 left... An hour later (with no lines). If you need one... Call your Walmart!!!

Hardly Worldwide with only 10/196 countries!

South Africa is in the Third Tier, who knows when that will launch then! 1 Month, 2 Months...

Me too, but I hope they will try and keep the filesizes low, as a Wired issue for the current iPad is already >200 Mb.

I'm also looking forward to using the camera as a scanner for mail and receipts etc. I use this function regularly on the iPhone but it is a bit cumbersome process due to the screensize.

I think there will be plenty of supply even if you have to wait a week. I see no reason to have to pay over retail for the new Ipad. I have an iPad I that I bought refurb from Apple (highly recommended) that I'm probably going to give away to a family member. Sadly I really dig the design of the first iPad and think it's one of Apple's best.

Lots of great reviews on the unbelievable "must see to believe" retina display. Can't wait FedEx truck to pull up so I can see for myself.

Why would it not work? You get downloads from 7Mbs (prepaid) to 40Mbs in Hong Kong and of course with the new iPad.

It won't work because the new iPad uses 4G LTE (700, 2100 MHz) bandwidth.
In Hong Kong, 4G LTE will be using the 800, 1800, 2300 and 2600 MHz band later in the year if I remembered correctly.

So sure, you can use 3G, 3.5G here... but LTE will not be supported.

Flight

My iPad is scheduled to leave on Fedex flight 1857 from Oakland to Portland at 2:40am. Flight is on time. :) due to arrive at 3:56am. Hopefully it's cleared TSA and it's not on the no fly list.
