3rd party keyboards and password fields

Hello all,

I don't know if this is a bug or by design, but when I enter password fields in apps, it switches away from 3rd party keyboards to the standard iOS keyboard. Is this by design or a bug?

I would hope the keyboards aren't logging keystrokes and sending them anyway, so why would they do this on purpose?
