3tb hard disk doesn't appear

hi I bought a seagate barracuda 3tb hard disk but it doesn't appear on mi imac 2012, i have other hard drives that do appear.. it doesn't even appear on disk utilities.. i really need help... im trying to install it via usb port with an adaptor don't know what to do now

When you connected the new drive did you get the popup message that the disk attached was not initialized?

If not, something is wrong with the adapter, enclosure or USB port.

Can you give us the model number of the external drive and details on this adapter?
