Do you think it will be possible to port the type of multitasking that is on the 4.0 onto the iphone 3G.

    No.

But there is backgrounder and plenty of apps for managing backgrounded apps.

What are you talking about. Are you forgetting, iAd, Apple Live, unified Mailbox, iBooks, Accelerate, Folders, and tons of new features for Apps. Just because we don't have Multitasking doesn't mean that is all 4.0 was about!!

    • I don't particularly like ads. I used to have an ad blocker installed
    • Apple Live... I don't care. Not enough friends have an iPhone for that to matter and I don't game much on my iPhone because the battery dies too quick using 3D. I'd hate to run out of juice needing to make a call because I couldn't put down Hero of Sparta.
    • Unified Mailbox, Cool. Not a big deal. I have LockInfo so all that is on my home screen as one mailbox.
    • iBooks. I have the Kindle App. Why do I need another app to use to read on my tiny screen?
    • Folders, I have Stacks v3. It looks even nicer than the folders.
    • New features for Apps, no. They basically opened up new APIs for developers. Jailbroken devices could always access these APIs.
    • Accelerate is basically hardware floating point acceleration. I don't see much use except for 3D games. But they use OpenGL anyway which should hardware accelerate anyway.

But could you explain what that all had to do with Backgrounding apps?

I can pretty much guarantee that some Cydia developer is making an app that looks just like Iphone 4.0s multitasking.
