I have a single cpu 4,1 (flashed to 5,1) that I have upgraded to a 3.46 cpu, but unfortunately I had a case issue with it and need to replace the case.

I have located near me a DUAL CPU 4,1 (again flashed to 5,1) that otherwise would make a suitable donor. What I would like to do is swap my entire single CPU tray into the new dual CPU system.

I know there are issues between 4,1/5,1 models, but are these issues within the same model?

    Thanks!

As long as they're both 4,1 and it's been firmware flashed 5,1, you'll be fine! The only trouble is putting a tray from '10/12 in a '09 or vice versa. Happy swapping and happy computing!

(If the new computer has dual CPU, why not just keep that? Or processors have not been updated yet?)

Thanks!!! The dual proc computers not been updated, and my single proc has so I think it makes sense to stay with that...

AFAIK the firmware flashed in the 4,1 to 5,1 process resides on the backplane. You should be able to put any 2009 processor tray in your Mac Pro, whether it comes from a flashed MP or not.

What you cannot do (without complications) is use a tray from a 2010-12 Mac Pro (a "real" 5,1).
