4.2.1 jailbreak for iphone 3gs version 4.2.5

i have an iphone 3gs that i want to jailbreak. im using greenpoison and the jailbreak is 4.2.1. the iphone's version is 4.2.5 and i want to know if that jailbreak works on this version of iphone. also, will it erase everything i have on my phone.

4.3.5 is currently tethered.
i would recommend upgrading it to 5.01 and using redsn0w to jb it

that's what i planned on doing in the first place and i did. i upgraded the iphone to ios 5.0.1 and then jailbroke it with redsnow. at first it was working well and i downloaded installous and mywi 5.0 cracked. it worked for a few hours and then it just rebooted but it would stay on the boot screen. so i connected it to the computer and it worked again but now the mywi app and safari are not working. whats wrong?
