first, is there a jailbreak out for 4.2 running on a 2 gen ipod touch for a mac? Also if there is one, can I just update to 4.2 and rejailbreak?

I'm almost positive there's no tool out yet to jailbreak it untethered on 4.2.1. Sorry.

There's redsn0w 0.9.6 b4 jailbreak for Mac. It's a TETHERED jailbreak though.

The latest version of redsn0w can jailbreak the MC-model of the iPod touch, however, it will be tethered. Tethered means that you'll have to plug your device into your computer to start it up again after you shut it down.
i have the same problem. Tethered jailbreak would do anyway.
can u show how? Cos after u click the downloaded firmware redsnow asks if the device is an MC model. If u click Yes, it says the jailbreak can't be done.

Is jailbreakme, or other super simple options like just sliding to jailbreak not available yet? I heard jailbreakme 3.0 was supposed to come out before Christmas, but it isn't out yet =S
i think redsn0w 0.9.7b1 might work. i used 0.9.6b4 for mine, which is a MB model. if 0.9.7b1 doesn't you might just have to wait.
