What are your impressions of 4.3 beta so far?

I've just installed the beta1 and can happily say no problems yet..

My main issue with 4.2.1 was that I was getting a lot of safari crashes, or app crashes after browsing certain websites. That seems to be fixed

Also it was a bit jerky when opening app folders , that also seems improved?

Did I here right that the keyboard has a new look or is that just for the iPhone ?

Keyboard doesn't have a new look, I don't know where you heard that. This is a beta, and beta one so my impression are that it's buggy, but usable as an everyday device. Th multitouch is amazing, I haven't used my home iron except for screenshots for a while, though its gonna take a while before my first instinct to quite an app is hit the home button. That being said the feature is also buggy, and the UI needs some refining.

Just realized the you can not turn off the the autolock and or the erase after 5 tries on the IPAD. Would not let me type in the password and I had to do a complete restore. There was a different keyboard on the lock screen. But, it has disappeared.

That black keyboard as far as I know has always been if you lock your device with a more complex code. It would be cool if it was used as the standard, but it only shows up then.

Okay thanks, I don't have 4.3 on my iPhone, and the change is minimal if any. But here it is.

Have they fixed safari's memory management yet? Does it still refresh the page every time when you have more than 3 or 4 pages open?

I think there has been some improvements. That being said there is only so much you can do with the 256mb of memory.

I just checked and 4 of my 8 open safari pages stayed opened, and that while also switching between 3 or 4 apps.

So for someone that hasn't seen it, what is the way you Multi-touch now?

On the iPad, you can use four or five fingers to do the following:

-Pinch to go to the home screen
-Swipe up to show the recent apps tray
-Swipe left and right to change between apps

Its clearly still buggy - app updates seem broken and I've experienced odd periods of lag, but that is probably down to debug code running in the background.

The gestures are great, but swiping between apps makes sense for quick changes between a couple of apps, but for getting further back I find it easier with the bar - but then again that has a gesture too so apple must have thought of that!

Cant stop myself clicking once for home though, 4-5 finger pinch not the most natural gesture but then again any fewer fingers would interfere with more apps already out there.

Hope the gestures stay, and are not just an early public test for iPad 2 (I can see Apple pushing this as a 'new' feature only available on iPad 2...) and whenever release comes seems like a good one so far! (Hoping mid Feb release?)

There are plenty of people demoing the new multi-touch feature on Youtube. Looks very smart!

^That should be snappy hopefully with more ram on the iPad 2, would sure as hell beat clicking the home button 100x

I don't have the option on my iPad for the multitouch gestures.... its not there under the mute/rotate switch options which is weird. I did a restore rather than an upgrade.

Strange!!

Two screenies:

1) my iPad keyboard - showing it looks the same

2) No multitouch gestures in Settings - unless you have to enable it somewhere else first

you have to go to xcode and click 'use for development' in order to use the multi touch gestures and then it will validate your iPad then it should appear in settings.
