4.7" or 5.0" for phones?

Personally anything bigger then 4.7" on my Nexus 4 annoys me a lot and I'm a 6ft 1 btw.

I think that 5" screen size while seems like the sweet spot, it's just too big for me. Anyone else agree with me on that? Do realise I did say that for phones, for phablets I can go for the OPPO N1 since I think if you are going the phablet route you should go the full way.

Some people said the same thing about 4.3 inch screens just four years ago. Some people said the same thing about 4.7 inch screens just two years ago.

People adjust. No different with people adjusting from physical QWERTY keyboards to touchscreen keyboards.

Also it isn't really about the size of the screen, but the actual dimensions. LG G2 has a 5.2 inch screen and nearly the same size as the HTC One with a 4.7 inch screen. Samsung Galaxy S4 has a 5 inch screen and is slightly shorter and thinner than the HTC One.

I do think that this is a valid point. The Moto X for example could have a bigger screen and still be comfortable.

If those were my only options I'd go with 5 inches. If I had a choice of any screen size I'd go with 6 inches.

Right now, 4.7-inch is the sweet spot for me. In my mind a 6-inch device is a tablet. A phone is something I carry around with me so I can communicate with others, and I read current news and weather when I'm out and about. I don't play games or use my phone for watching movies. The Moto X is currently my favorite device as far as size.

Going from the iPhone 4S, to the Nexus 4, and now to the GS4, I prefer a 4.7" phone. If only the hardware wasn't so bad (ie: camera) in the N4 I would still be using it.

I feel in my use case while it wasn't as good as the 4S it gets the job done for when I need to sometimes take photos of notes during class.

I upgraded from a Nexus 4 to a Nexus 5 and now, when I use my wife's Nexus 4 I find it smallish
Thats how it kept feeling to me.

When I had the iPhone 4S, I thought 4 inches would be the sweet spot.

When I got the iPhone 5, I thought 4.3 inches would be the sweet spot.

When I got the Lumia 900 I thought 4.7 inches would be the sweet spot.

When I got the Nexus 4 I thought 5 inches would be the sweet spot.

When I got the Galaxy S4 I thought 5.7 inches would be the sweet spot.

Now I have the Note 3, I think 6 inches will be the sweet spot.

4.7" is just fine, no bigger please.
Anything bigger than 5" in just ridiculous IMO and I think just under 5" is the sweet spot for a touchscreen mobile phone. I don't want a big flat rectangle on my thigh thanks.

This. The bigger you go the more real estate you desire. I also have the note 3 and now I'm fantasising about a galaxy mega sized note :D

You better start shopping for a fancy briefcase to carry it in then :p
The comment every time someone sees my Note 3 at work is "How do you fit it into your pocket? Every time I hand it to them to try, they always let out a gasp of surprise or "Wow" when it goes into their pocket easily with plenty of room to spare.

The reality is unless you wear painfully tight skinny jeans, it will fit into your pocket with ease. Unless your pocket is pretty much the exact size and dimensions of an iPhone.

I have placed a Note 3 in my pocket and although it will fit in my suit trousers for work, it still looks huge on my thigh. I do wear skinny-ish jeans in my free time so it doesn't fit so easily in that scenario. If the size works for you then I think that is great, for me its just far too big. I have no use for a phone like that and for all bigger tasks I use my iPad. I rarely need a large screen on the move :)

I'm not saying my experience will be the same for everybody, just everyone I've met in person who made the tablet jive about my phone had never tried to put it in their own pocket. And most people I encounter online making it havent tried it themselves.

I do think that 4.7 (with slim bezels) would be better for my wife.

For me, 5-5.1" is the limit. And I have pretty big hands.

The amount of bezel and total weight of the phone play a part in this for sure. It's not just the screen size per se.

After using the S4 for 6 months, my takeaway was that I would prefer the screen to be just a touch smaller. Say 4.7" or 4.8".

I think the Nexus 5 and upcoming M8 are probably the perfect fit for me personally. 5" with on-screen buttons. Essentially 4.8".

4.7" or 5.0" for phones?

Well in the past two years I have had iPhone 4S, IPhone 5, Samsung Note 2, Nexus 4, HTC One, Nexus 5, and now iphone 5s. I thought for the longest time I could never have anything smaller than 4.7", but after using the 5s for some time. I can live with 4". If Apple decides to make the phone bigger that is fine with me too. If I needed to use my Nexus 5 again I could be plenty fine with it too. I just would never go over 5". The Note 2 was just not something I could get use to.

I have the Lumia 1520 and it is a bit to big to really be a comfortable phone, even though I can carry it easily in both my front jeans pocket and in my hand.

The Moto X is just a bit too small for my personal taste, but it is the best phone I have ever owned.

If the Moto X goes to around 4.8-4.9 inches, it would be a perfect size for me. But that is just my personal preference. I'm 6'1" tall and have larger hands. If you are on the vertically challenged side, I can see the iPhone 5 being the perfect size for you.

I am 6', and have big hands. I have no issues using the iPhone.
