Almost any electronics device that gets miniaturized will get compromised by specs and if dealing with cost-cutting. Happens to consoles. It is like picking between a compact digital camera vs a much larger DSLR cam which offers better photos but in a higher price.

Yes, computers used to be the size of a room. Now they make them smaller so they fit in a back pack. There are so many things that they compromised to make them smaller

As for it being plastic, since it will be in a case anyway, does it really matter?

I think it matters, but only depending on the price. If the phone is plastic, it shouldn't cost more than a phone with a metal build quality. If it's metal, it comes down to how they spec the phone out. I would love to see Apple do something similar to what Sony did with the Xperia Z3 compact. Smaller package but no loss in performance. If Apple did that, they would have a winner IMHO.

I don't think that the 6c will be 4", probably 4.7. After selling my iphone 5 I got the samsung galaxy s5 which is 5.1" damn that thing was huge in my hand the first week. But I'm not a big fan of android so I gave it to my mom and got the 6 a week ago. The 4.7 screen size is perfect for me, after using for 4 months а 5.1" one. :D In a nutshell after some time you'll get used to bigger size phones. :)

Iphone 5c was iphone 5 in plastic ..

Iphone 6c would be iphone 5s in plastic ..

Bcoz if they are making new phone , why do they need pill size led if they can make two semi circular flash which is better in looks ...

My mind says , they will provide 5s in case of 5c ... Dats it !!

Probably true to a certain extent, but then you pick up a 4" phone and it feels refreshing and you think, "I could get used to this."

I think it's all about your lifestyle. If you are the type who think of a phone as a tool, and that a smaller phone satisfies your needs, then why carry a bigger phone?

It's like 10 years ago when it seemed that everyone wanted an SUV. People got used to the extra size and space of their SUVs. But then many realized that bigger is not always better, and that perhaps they don't need that extra space.

Sure, a webpage is more practical on a 6+, but it also looks better on an iPad Mini, and better yet on a full size iPad, but still not as good as on a 24" display. Where do you draw the line? For some, it's 4", for others 4.7" or larger.

I agree on the price and doing what Sony did with the Xperia Z3. The metal is great but it might be nice to see Apple do up a nice phone with great design and plastics for a change that has performance to boot. I'd love to see a smaller bezel regardless.

I wonder how much the price difference between a plastic versus metal iPhone is due to perceived value pricing rather than the cost of manufacturing.

Given that Apple is already making iPhones with metal casing, they have it set up to churn out hundred of millions of these units, so they get to process of mass manufacturing the metal shell and assembly down to about as good as any one of us can imagine.

On the other hand, when we think of a metal casing for the iPhone versus a plastic one, we are probably thinking of a long manual labor process.

Given that the cost of the phone is marketing + software + internal + screen + casing, how much cheaper can a plastic phone be to manufacture? $20?

Unless plastic is your preference, would you buy a plastic iPhone to save $20? That is the cost of an aftermarket case with shipping.

I have a 6 and would go back to a 4" form factor, but not if they're just putting 5s specs in a plastic shell. Offer the same specs as the bigger phones -- or at least specs equal to this year's bigger phones -- and I'd be in.

I have to agree. If it only has the specs of the 5s, it's not enough of an upgrade over my 5 that still works perfectly fine. I might as well wait for the 7c that might have the specs of the 6. But that won't be until 2017 if they follow their trend. At that point I might as well get used to the extra 0.7" and get a 6 at some point this year or wait for the 6s. But my dad gets the next upgrade, and it seems like he's content with his 4S.

the instant apple reintroduces a 4" phone with modern features, i will jump on it. if they can cram competitive specs into it, a 6c could even sell at a premium relative to the other iphones just like the macbook retina and air products do. i suspect that there are many others in the same boat

We just are, okay?!??

Seriously: I don't think it's unreasonable to think that a third of the market would prefer a smaller phone than the iPhone 6. Some will have bought the iP6 on release because their need for shiny new stuff outweighs their size preference, but a lot of us are waiting to see what happens.

If Apple don't introduce a 'modern' 4"–4.3" model then the majority of hold-outs will give in and buy an iP6, although some will end up moving away from Apple. But in the meantime us thirders are sticking with our smaller phones for as long as we can.

you seriously think a 3rd of the market wants small phones? are you daft??? theres a reason why big phones are hugely popular now, especially since it wasn't until the iphone 6 was released that iOS actually started taking android users back.

You make it sound like the 6 is a huge upgrade over the 5S internally...which it isn't. Same screen PPI, negligible processor difference, same RAM, etc etc

My prediction:

iPhone 5c, with A7 and maybe Touch ID and improved cameras
16GB: Free

iPhone 6 mini, shrunken down iPhone 6, possibly with better battery life
32GB: $99
64GB: $149

iPhone 6s, with 2GB memory, improved cameras, improved internals, and maybe Force Touch
32GB: $199
64GB: $299
128GB: $399

iPhone 6s Plus, same upgrades
32GB: $249
64GB: $349
128GB: $449

This will keep Apples strong line-up of plastic small phone, small phone, flagship and flagship phablet, which I think is excellent.

Oh watch out! You mean the camera that is the same mpx and takes worse shots in certain conditions? And how about that NFC that only works with Apple Pay which hardly anyone is using.

iPhone 6 can do 240fps video, and I expect Apple Pay uptake to be high in the UK. I don't want to buy a new iPhone that I plan to keep for 2-3 years if it doesn't have NFC.

I carry my 5s in my shirt pocket, so, I'd be very content with a new 4 inch phone model. The 6 and 6 Plus do not fit. I only hope that the 6c will be offered in at least one color that an adult can stomach. I think the bright colors are cute, but, these days the only cute things I'm in love with are my grandchildren.

In June:
Code:
5c is retired

(5s in 5c body)
5cs 16GB: $449
5cs 32GB: $499

(new thinner plastic body, 4" version of the 6)
6c 64GB: $599
6c 128GB: $699

In September:
Code:
6 and 6+ are retired

(4.7" A9 model gains OIS and higher pixel density screen)
7 64GB: $699
7 128GB: $799

(5.5" A9, only model with 2GB of RAM, flames all over the internet)
7+ 64GB: $799
7+ 128GB: $899

Will never go back to using a 4" phone. I have the 4.7" iPhone 6 and if I were to upgrade, I'd get the same size or perhaps even the larger one. I don't mind a larger screen.

Might as well get a 5S then which isnt alot slower then the 6.

My issue with that is that I don't see the 5s as being a huge improvement over my 5 in everyday use. Touch ID without Apple Pay isn't a huge selling point for me. The 6 seems like a good upgrade, but the size is a deterrent for me. My dad is also the next to get a new phone, and he seems content with his 4S. I'm on a college budget.
