With the latest PMA it seems like we now have a new 450D that has newer features than the 40D!

Does this mean we can expect a 40D replacement soon?

The 40D just came out in like September.

I think the 5D is next for an update.

What features are you referring to?

    "ZOMG, 12 Megapixels!!!"

If you think the 40D is in dire need for an update only 5 months after release, you really haven't seen the photos produced by that camera. Now go and take some photos, and stop worrying about such things.

Given the photos i was able to take with a friends 30D on my recent trip the 40D's improvements can't need an update so soon.

Regarding the OP, the 450 is a very good entry level camera, but when really pushed the 40D can still win in many areas, start with the frames per second where the 40D just about doubles the 450 and can do it for longer.

I'd say the 40D exceeds the 450D in just about every way other than being light weight.

I have been using a 20D for quite a while and it is getting quite long in the tooth.

The 450D does look tempting though, with its higher ISO sensitivity and stuff as well as the newer image processor, but do all those features really matter in real world usage?

If you're used to a 20D upgrade to the 40D, don't step down to the 450D(xsi). The 450 may have more megapixels but it is a toy when compared to the 40D

I almost started a new thread titled "D300 replacement soon?", but then realized some people on here would think I was serious. :D

Can you please elaborate a bit more?

Cos ultimately I am not a pro photographer, I shoot a lot of stills so features like a larger buffer don't really bug me.

What would I be missing out on with the XSi?

The 40D has a much bigger, brighter viewfinder (.95x vrs .87x). It shoots a 6.5 fps vrs 3.5. ISO 3200 mx vrs ISO 1600. Better autofocus system (all points cross type. XSI only has cross type at center). Wider metering range. 1/8000 second shutter vrs 1/4000. Shutter life rated to 100,000 exposures vrs 50,000. Flash sync 1/250 vrs 1/200. Shorter black out time (just a guess). Kelvin white balance adjustment. Different focusing screens available. Custom shooting modes on dial. sRAW. Wireless connectivity.
