well, i hear some DJs are takin two ipods and a mixer and DJing with them.

personally I would like a 40G or more ipod cause I have 60G of mp3s

to have a 40gig iPod, Apple would have to put in another 20gb HD and another battery, making the iPod about .5 inches thicker. They'd also have to put in another hard drive controller. Until toshiba releases bigger HD's at a reasonable price, you won't see a 40 gig iPod, with a hard drive, that is...

Imagine 40gigs of SRAM (the kind that doesn't need constant power to hold memory...) If the technology became available, and cheap enough, we could see a smaller iPod... Maybe a piece of clear plastic 1/8" thick with a screen, scroll wheel, and some circuits behind the wheel and screen... That would be an awesome mp3 player... I wonder if anyone can do that in photoshop...

Oh, and Gelfin, only the 10gb iPod is slimmer. The 5gb iPod is the same size, and the 20gb iPod is actually a bit thicker, but that's probably because the hard drive is thicker, because Toshiba has to put another platter in the HD.

You know, I've heard that said before, but Toshiba's data sheets on the drives list the exact same dimensions for all three.

Not exactly. If you look at the 5gb HD's data sheet, you will see that it's 5mm thick. The 10gb HD is also 5mm thick, but the reason that it has a higher capacity, is because it crams more data onto a smaller space on the disk. Both of these drives only have one disk, or 'platter' in them.

If you look at the 20gh HD's data sheet, you will see that it has 2 disks in it, and is 8mm thick.

I think that the reason that the 10gb iPod is thinner than the 5, is because Apple's keeping the same design on the original 5gb iPod, and they re-designed the insides of the 10 and 20 gb iPods.

I still think that an iPod with just 20gb of solid-state memory would rock... :D

Right on! Actually it would be rather nice to have a 200-300GB iPod so you could put your whole CD collection on it uncompressed. Then you could hook it up to a high quality D/A converter and preamp and play it through your stereo system. Does anyone know if it’s possible to get the digital bit stream out of the firewire? I’d be willing to design the audio circuits if you can. Would be power hungry though, definitely not portable.

Since the demand seems to be there, I personally will be releasing the 1TB iPodd.

It will feature a 800 amp hour battery, rechageable of course, five 200GB hds, and the patented iPodd interface.

Beacause not everyone has FireWire, this new device will RECORD through a built-in mic, as a matter of fact, that's the only way to get sound onto the thing. Also, proprietary power adapters are a pain, so I've decided to work with AC Delco, who've provided the battery, which can be recharged with common jumper cables, or at any gas station.

Best of all, the new 1TB iPodd fits in the average backpack, and only weighs 63 pounds!

It is available NOW, and priced at a very competitive $2,400.

this is a silly thread

Can't you just add a couple of 120GB drives to your Mac and run a cable from it?

The whole point of the iPods is having music/data on-the-go, in a form factor small enough to fit in your shirt pocket. Portability, get it?

I just don't get these people who want uncompressed aiffs. You're simply not going to be able to tell the difference between AIFFS and mp3s compressed at 192kbps or higher. Definitely not thru your ipod headphones.

Also, you're forgetting that 10 times the file size means 10 times the file transfer time. Even with firewire, 200GB will take a while to transfer.

if you're listening through headphones, may as well use 192 kbps mp3 encoding.

sorry to say it but that's bull****.... you don't need "studio monitors" to tell the difference. :)
I have some cheap yamaha speakers here and I can easily tell the difference.

Aha. At one time they did list the same dimensions for all three drives. This was closer to when they released the 20G. I should've checked again before posting. Sorry.

) ...Hello I´m new here so bare with me if I´m not up to date!

iPod is for me more than just mp3 player, calander and contacts as well (for now). I assume that people would use the iPod for more than just music,...I would (just have not got one yet) so 20Gb is enough for now. But, when iPod gets more intellegent which i think it will, Apple must increase it´s capacity. Being more intellegent i mean being a multi machine such as GPS, dictaphone, game machine, and camera. I know it sounds expensive but hey...isn´t everything built on dreams. Everything comes down in price, but I would love one!:D
