Updated LIST of known WEBCLIP Bookmark Icons

Wanted to start this thread to address and inform all of those out there that would like to add nice clean Webclip Icons to their Home Pages on their iPhone/iTouches

In the weeks to come webmasters will be adding these webclip icons to their mobile website's and this thread can be used to consolidate for everyone.


PLEASE USE THIS FORMAT WHEN POSTING your WEB LINK:
Name of Webpage (category): URL

This will help me keep this up to date as I test each link given to make sure it works as of the last date updated. If one fails to create, then check the URL that you entered and also give it 10-15 secs to load if on edge, these have been tested.

iPhone and iPod touch allow a user to save a WebClip bookmark to your site on their Home Screen.

To specify a bookmark icon for all pages of a web site, place a PNG image named "apple-touch-icon.png" at the root directory of your web server - similar to the "favicon.ico" for site icons.

To override the site bookmark icon on a specific web page, insert a <link> element similar to <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/customIcon.png"/> within the <head> element of the page.

The bookmark icon dimensions should be 57x57 pixels. If the icon is a different size it will be scaled and cropped to fit.

Safari will automatically composite the icon with the standard "glassy" overlay so it looks like a built-in iPhone or iPod application.


Though I haven't done it I would assume you can complete this process and then add it to the files in your .Mac sites folder on your iDisk, but since I am still using .Mac templates from 4 yrs ago and have yet to even play with iWeb I would hope someone else can fill in the blanks better.
 
is there a way to do this without knowing web stuff. i have an iweb site and would like to make a bookmark how would i go about this in an easy way?

if anyone could let me know of an easy step by step way to create a webclip image for my iweb site. i am on a mac using iweb through .mac to create the site. i already have 57x57 image titled and ready to go

I don't think you can use iWeb for this. Does your website files show up in your iDisk? You could upload the file that way.
 
How about Telekinesis? Is there a way to put a custom icon on my computer somewhere and have it show up?

OOH, I just did this. Open up the package contents for Iphone Remote.app, and go to Contents/Resources/WWW. And drop the png in the root of the WWW folder. Worked like a charm for me.

Thanks so much for the heads up on the Beejive icon! I've been zooming/pinching in order to get 'something' of an icon but they've all sucked! HA! Wish I could figure out how to make them on my own but I'm confused about the apple-touch part....would I just rename that apple-iPhone? And do I need a photobucket account to reference/upload the icons?

still have no idea since no on seems to answer. i have a mac, am using iweb with a .mac subscription. i have the picture ready i need to know where to place it in my idisk????
 
Here's my custom web clipping icon for Telekinesis. It looks great once the iPhone curves the edges and adds the gloss!! Feel free to use it!

(It's 158x158 b/c i read where it will actually scale down and turn out crisper than 57x57)
