With the writer's strike over, the Academy Awards (Oscars) telecast is back on schedule. The broadcast will be Sunday, February 24. Jon Stewart is the host.

Every year, we have a contest at MacRumors for those who are interested in these movie awards. There are 113 nominations for 58 movies in 24 categories. The grand prize, for the forum member making the most correct predictions in this thread, is MacRumors bragging rights.

Here's how to vote:
  • Copy the ballot from the next post below.
  • Delete all but one line in each category, leaving 1 choice per category (your prediction).
  • Post it in this thread.
I will check the predictions against the award winners and post the results on Monday, February 25.

Fine print: Only one ballot per person. You need not vote in every category, but there's no penalty for guessing. Do not edit your post after voting; posts edited on Saturday or Sunday won't count. Winner need not be present to collect his or her prize. No animals were harmed in the making of this contest. Complaints that Doctor Q keeps winning his own contest will cause him further embarrassment, and appropriately so.

You are welcome to post other discussion about the Oscars here or in the earlier 2008 OSCAR® Nominations or Best Movies of 2007 threads.

Good luck!

**Doctor Q, whats this like two years you edge me right? I haven't been keeping up on my movies last year so I might fall completely off this time.
That was last year (the awards given in 2007 for 2006 films). You and I were tied going into the last category (Best Picture), and my prediction ("The Departed") was right, giving me a one-vote margin of victory.

These races are usually close. I lost the 2004 Oscar contest by one vote. I've still never won our office pool.

I didn't keep up with 2007 movies in 2007, but I've been on a mad movie-watching spree since last month. I managed to see 20 of the 58 nominated movies in 2 months, and that covers 61 of the 113 nominations. (Of the 58 movies, 21 got more than one nomination.)

Best Visual Effects: Scott Farrar, Scott Benza, Russell Earl, and John Frazier for Transformers

too bad that moat movies haven't been released yet here ... why do those oscar movies always get release quite short before the actual oscars themselves ?

I'll collect the data for the contest in one hour from the time of this post. Those who still want to enter the contest should post before then.

I'd been debating this since I made my picks, and I just had to change my best actress to Julie Christie from Ellen Page. Gotta go with the academy's comeback award tradition here, I think.
