Just my opinion - but Apple have got lazy, and exercise extreme arrogance in under-developing and over-charging for the MBP, simply because they can say "Fine, go find another performance laptop which runs OSX...oh, that's right - you can't - pay up"

I'd go along with this, the current “MacBook Pro” is almost unchanged externally since 2003.

That's very un-Apple like. Hopefully they will put things right first.

The Sony Z series hits the suite spot for features/form factor for me.

They are. They'd be my laptop of choice in the PC world. I'd certainly argue that Vaios are better built and more reliable than MBP's.

The Vaio FW is cheaper, better equipped, and imho more stylish, reliable and better built than an MBP. Just my opinion - but Apple have got lazy, and exercise extreme arrogance in under-developing and over-charging for the MBP, simply because they can say "Fine, go find another performance laptop which runs OSX...oh, that's right - you can't - pay up"

If that's how you feel, then fair enough.

Personally, I don't mind the quality of the MBPs at all. It's the MacBooks that really are crap build quality. They're not a bad deal in terms of price, or they weren't when they were released. I just regret not buying a MBP. I went from a PB, to MacBook, and I really want the PB/MBP form factor back.

But I'd take a MBP which looked more like an MBA though. ;)

My current Blackbook is reaching 1 year old this holiday season. Never had any problems with it, knock on wood. Best traveling machine I have ever owned.

>>Sony should do the whole world a favor and recall all Vaio's :p<<

My wife just got a new Vaio at the end of July. It has Vista on it. It's not one that was recalled.

I've been an Apple/Mac user since the '80's and my current Mac Book Pro is 2 years old and driving me crazy. I find I'm seeing the spinning beach ball more and more, Word crashes each time I load it. I have to reboot 3x/day. And my iPhone gets more problematic with each "upgrade."

I don't know what's with Apple?? Do they have too many things going in or on. I actually had to go to my wife's Vaio to get some work done. No kidding. I haven't heard the end of it from her either. Her Vaio is very fast, easy to use, starts right up, never crashes. I actually love it.

I wish Apple would do something or they'll lose the market share they've gained.

Your 2 year old laptop may be asked to do a lot more now than before. Those 2 year old MBPs only recognized 2 GB of RAM, much like my friend's MBP. Also, MS Office sucks. It's slow, and uses lots of resources. Blame MS.

Recalled due to potential for overheating, with no really serious cases reported out there 'in the wild' to speak of, which are actually named and numbered. Very much like any other responsible manufacturer.

It's not like Apple, where you (and many others) return it several times for a defect before the recall becomes official and then in a nebulous manner designed to evade closer scrutiny. Potential for minor burns? Anyone remember the Cookbook Pro Rev. A just for starters which was - between it and the Rev. A Magsafe - a virtual certainty? No, I guess crowing Applezombies memories don't extend back to beyond Steve's last keynote ;)
