Has anyone heard about new announcements coming soon? I was about to purchase one and I wanted to make sure I wasn't blind to an obvious update coming in the near future. Thanks for the help!

sorry for the n00b post.

It is HIGHLY unlikely. The MacBook Pro was last updated on February 27 with many people receiving their orders a week or two ago. They were updated with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor.

Go ahead and buy.

thanks for the help! wish there was a Blu-ray drive coming soon, that's the only thing i was waiting for really. buying tonight. these specs:

MacBook Pro, 15-inch, 2.4GHz
4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Accessory Kit
Apple Remote

:)

A little advice, don't get the 4GB of ram directly from Apple. You can get it for 1/3 the price somewhere else, like OWC (they'll even buy back your old memory).

Based on recent news, it looks like the Intel Montevina update has possibly been pushed back until Q1 of '09, so we might not see redesigned MBPs until then.

Don't buy the 4GB from Apple. It's over priced. Instead buy the RAM from NewEgg or something and put it in yourself.

Also what's this accessory kit?

oh well, already purchased. i would've had to find 2X2GB sticks anyway, since it would be 2X1GB otherwise. so it's just easier that way, even if it's a little more. student discount ftw.

Do you have a link, by chance?

A little more? Isn't it more like 4-6x more?

I know you already ordered it, but if it helps with any future purchases, check out the "Buyer's Guide" tab towards the top of the screen (under the "Search Forums" box).

MacRumors does an awesome job of tracking when the last announcements for Apple hardware were, and even tell you when it's a good time (or not a good time) to buy.

thanks again guys. guess i screwed up on the RAM. oh well.

The handy-dandy MacBook Pro Buyers guide link at the top of this sub-forum will tell you that information.

Well, if money is a "oh well" for ya, then there is a nice mac pro I'm shopping for. :apple:

good point. looks like i can get 2X2GB for $300 less. so i'm going to cancel/re-order. thanks.

i dont think there will be any updates soon, i mean, it's barely 2 months since the Penryn is out

prolly in the mid 2008 tho, i'd say around July or maybe September then

If you really wanted blu-ray, dells got some pretty nice laptops that they just rolled out with blu-ray. very competitively priced too.

...But they don't come with OS X.
