Plan B
Looks like bad weather...

Many of us are still meeting up. Some people are
coming from outside of London and the UK to be here,
so here's the plan:

From 2pm or so onwards (the pub opens at noon),
the MacRumors London Picnic 2008™ will take place
in the pub. Which pub?

The Queen's Arms

30 Queen's Gate Mews, London, SW7 5QL
Tel: 020 7823 9293

The best ways to get there are:

1. Catch the Tube to Gloucester Road tube station
(Piccadilly, Circle and District lines) and it's a five
minute walk to the pub or...
2. Catch a bus which goes along Kensington Gore/Kensington Road
(9, 10, 49, 52 etc) and then it's also a five minute walk

How will you know it's us?
This is how:

Hope to see you there

:)

I have some questions about this:

  • How many people normally turn up?
  • Is there any limit on how much alcohol I can bring? ;)
  • Do the folks from www.pcrumors.com ever crash the party? :D
  • Can I bring friends?
  • How long does it normally go on for?
  • Has it ever rained and would you change the date at the last minute if the weather forecast indicated so?
  • Do people call each other by their real names or user names?
  • Will I be intimidated if I've never been before?
  • Do any sporting activites take place or are people just too lazy?
  • Does everyone bring their laptop?

Merci. :)

  • How many people normally turn up? -errr, 20-30 maybe
  • Is there any limit on how much alcohol I can bring? ;) -dur, of course not
  • Do the folks from www.pcrumors.com ever crash the party? :D -always, the buggers
  • Can I bring friends? -yup
  • How long does it normally go on for? -"until late", late meaning probably around 10-12, totally depends on weather and turnout
  • Has it ever rained and would you change the date at the last minute if the weather forecast indicated so? -it's never rained, so I don't know. Don't curse it!
  • Do people call each other by their real names or user names? -bit of both
  • Will I be intimidated if I've never been before? -people are generally nicer in person than their internet alter egos
  • Do any sporting activites take place or are people just too lazy? -not really in the past, but you're more than welcome to try!
  • Does everyone bring their laptop? -some do

edit: ^ ah frick, well you get two answers...

first and second

How many people and what goes on? Varies I reckon but a fair amount as you can see from some of the photos that were posted in prior threads.
Some of the people going know each other in "real life" so real names are used but often there will be username introductions. It's a good bunch of people, you shouldn't feel intimidated by it. You are welcome to bring friends or play sports, though I think most chill on blankets and drink up. And I saw a few laptops last time, yeah.
Hope to see you there.

Some boules were thrown around at the first one I think.

Anyway I hope you all have a great time, I'll be in a Land Rover in Norway...

It's in a part of the park where it's close to the bathrooms but slightly off the beaten path and there's plenty of trees nearby (shade the booze!) so as long as no one is acting like a complete jackass, it should be fine to bartend all you like! :)

it's just past these fountains and around these trees.

Some other photos I took of Hyde Park if you'd like to see.

Thanks for the replies edesignuk, iBlue and robbieduncan. As long we can play some frisbee at least, I'll be happy!

And sananda, if you like my vision, then I'll assume you'll be coming down to join the festivities!

I have another question. Is Speakers' Corner active on Saturdays? Anyone ever had the idea to go up and start preaching about the advantages of Macs over PC's? If so I'll bring the step ladder and camera ... ;)

:(
I'll drink for you.

I have a rule for myself for this year:
No camera is to be pointed at any other attendee without permission.

If anyone catches me doing otherwise can confiscate my drink er, camera.

well, if i win the lottery and grab a flight from NA, i'll be there.
I think this is a cool idea. Hyde Park is a great spot from what I remember on my trip to London years ago.

have fun.

i'd love to come and meet the fellow peeps of MR, but unfortunately, i'm having an op on my eye a week before, so wouldn't want to walk around like a pirate!!

altho i'm sure some of you will end up like that by the end of the day ;) hehe

Have fun

I hope you have a good day folks. I'll be busy getting married on the 19th of July, so won't be able to make it.

Some other photos I took of Hyde Park if you'd like to see.

Thanks, Hyde Park looks really nice in those photos. Last time I went it was cold, windy and raining. But if it's as sunny as it was in those pics then it should be an amazing day.

You don't need to win the lottery to come down my friend! Flights are cheap nowadays and there's loads of cheap, yet decent quality, hotels in London.

Also I'm curious, do any other countries have MacRumors Picnics? I know you're from Canada, but in America especially, considering the large number of MR members from there, they must meet up quite often, right?

You'll fit in quite nicely with the MacRumors Pirate flag in the flyer at the top of the page! Will the operation stop you from walking around properly, e.g. loss of balance, or is it just a cosmetic thing you're worried about? Cos I don't think anyone would care and besides, eye patches / sunglasses look cool!

I hope you have a good day folks. I'll be busy getting married on the 19th of July, so won't be able to make it.

Congratulations with that. :)
But surely you could have part of the reception in the picnic with us? :D

The grass was in the process of being mowed that day, it looked a bit rough around the edges but it was a gorgeous day in a gorgeous park all the same. :)

We often add little suns into our avatars before the picnic to sort of appeal to the weather gods to have mercy on us. :D So far so good.

I don't think there's been one quite like the london picnics probably just because of the sheer size of the US. Organizing a meeting place people can agree on would be quite a task. Our little country is smaller than the state of california, which works out nicely for this sort of thing. :)

With the number of members who live semi-close to each other, you'd think so, but...

I hope you have a good day folks. I'll be busy getting married on the 19th of July, so won't be able to make it.

This is a picnic. With MR folks. Priorities?

I'll try to take some bloody mary ingredients with me to enlighten bartelby however I shan't have any booze with me since I can't drink anymore >_<

In all likelihood I'll be 100% sober and straight for this one
