It has 48mp and therefore, it should've supported for normal mode, not just for ProRAW Max mode. I have no idea why Apple limited only up to 24mp. Both 12mp and 24mp are literally merged pixels from 48mp. For me, it's better to have higher megapixels.
And it does not support Live. I want 48mp with Live just like 12 and 24. It's still part of Pro format, not normal format. You can enable HEIF 48MP photos in the Camera app. At the top right it says "RAW MAX" or "HEIF MAX" or something like that, hold your finger down on that and you can switch to "HEIF MAX" which lets you take 48MP shots without activating ProRAW.
Doesn't support Live which is pointless. You have to go back to Formats and turn on ProRAW & Resolution Control. Then you will have access to HEIF Max.
I'm not sure why Apple locked it that way.

Live will never be supported like that because it’s a short video clip. All you’re gonna get is 4K resolution at best. Maybe less than that because of the way it’s made and ends up as a 12mp file. Live photos are never as clear as regular still photos because of the video clip. I never use live. I shoot RAW.And it does not support Live. I want 48mp with Live just like 12 and 24. It's better than nothing as each photo has video of before and after. It never was about the quality as it gives life to each photo. Beside, if it can shoot 12mp and 24mp, then 48mp is technically possible as pixel binning takes more power to create than 48mp alone.Live will never be supported like that because it’s a short video clip. Than why do you care about 48MP Live Photos?. It never was about the quality
You are totally mistaken. "Live" means it also take a low-res video along with a pic. I said ProRAW Max and HEIF Max don't support live.Than why do you care about 48MP Live Photos?
First 48MP photos were “just for ProRAW Max mode” according to you.
When told about 48MP compressed HEIF images, you moved the goalposts to Live Photos.
I‘m genuinely confused why you want 48MP Live Photos if it’s not about the quality….
