Price point to who? Remember, Apple is getting ~$599 for the top end iphone from ATT... so the $299 price point is irrelevant.

It is not irrelevant at all. Apple isn't going to decrease its margin, and AT&T can't increase its subsidy to more than $400 per phone without further increasing prices in a highly competitive market. Any increase in cost with therefore have to fall on the consumer. To offer a 64GB phone for $299, the cost cannot be higher than that of the 32GB 3GS.

Believe me, I hope you're right. I'd love to be able to early upgrade to the 32GB for $399. I just doubt it will happen.

Not only that, Steve Jobs keeps saying that the update will be 'mind blowing' and 'incredible' etc, etc.

Um, he also said that the iPad is "magical". It's pretty awesome, but you can't call a really big iPod Touch "magical". Allowing more customization to the software (i.e.: themes, lock screen info, etc.) would make the iPhone G4 closer to "incredible" (or at least as good as my jailbroken 3G), in my opinion.

I just want the dang phone here already!

I'm not sure about 64GB now, because the 4G leaked in Vietnam was 16GB. Which leads me to believe we'll be getting 16/32 again. Unless they do something like this:

16GB 3GS- $99
16GB G4- $199
32GB G4- $299
64GB G$- $399

I'll take the g money for $399. :)

wasnt the vietnam iphone considered an earlier model than the one gizmodo had?

maybe it was one of the first prototypes and they used a 16gb chip for that

i dont know, but just something to think about

A 32GB SDHC memory card last February cost me $93

I'm Assuming a 32GB SDHC memory card in May-June of 2009 Cost about $89? (SDHC prices were falling during this time in 2009)

A 64GB SDxC memory card today costs $219

A 32GB SDHC memory card today costs $89

Simply put.... Nand flash prices for 32GB have not gone down, and 64GB is vastly more expensive today than 32GB was one year ago, Apple could not make a 64GB iPhone at the same price point as a 32GB cost in 2009. We expect Apple to keep the price points the same, Although Apple makes 3 Sizes of the iPad, so a new 3rd size of iPhone, $399 (subsidized) price point could make a 64GB iPhone possible.

I know I'm looking at retail prices of memory cards, but they use the same NAND chips that go in iPhones right? I know Apple can get these things super cheap on contract, but the percent price changes from one product to another should still be reflected in Apples purchase contract cost for NAND chips.

More people will buy the 16GB 3Gs for $99 over the 16 GB 4th Gen. Unless apple doesn't care and just wants you to purchase any iPhone
