iPod 4G U2 iPod unresponsive

My sister just gave me her old U2 iPod, and it wont even turn on. Is there any way to run a diagnostic on it through my computer?

have you already plugged it in to a computer since it stopped working? I would guess that the battery may be bad.

Responsive, but corrupted

Ok, so the battery seems to be fine, i plugged it in, and it fires up, and holds a charge. It plays music, but sometimes messes up.

When i plug it into iTunes it says it is corrupted, and when i try to restore it says can not restore, error 1429?

any suggestions?
