I came from air2 to iPP12.9, and man I have so many freaking tabs open on my iPad pro by mistake, and then stay loaded in memory.

It's not that 2GB was ever an issue on my Air 2, but this is an observation and not something I think people can't simply downplay as "more pixels need double the RAM"-- nah, or that it having more memory than 9.7 is a moot spec, its not.

Not to say iPP9.7 isn't a great product too or "DONT BUY IT" just saying from an experience perspective

Nice to see though that it has an immediate benefit. Do you see any other performance improvements compare to the Air 2?

A9x feels quite a bit faster at rendering pages, but it may just be the novelty I dont have the air2 to direct compare anymore,

I just upgraded my Air to a 12.9 iPP and noticed teh same thing. Much faster and much less reloading.

I'm a little disappointed that Apple didn't give the 9.7 more RAM (and instead upgraded the camera?!). However, I will say I had an Air 2 and it's noticeable improvement over that. I don't know how the 12.9 compares to the 9.7 Pro but has someone who owns both done a test to see how many tabs they can keep open before refreshing? I'm just a little curious. Otherwise, it's quite speedy and I'm very happy with it.

the procreate painting app limits the size and complexity of projects on the 9.7 vs the 12.9 as a direct consequence of the ram differences.

the 9.7 is by no means unusable, but there are immediate, real world limitations that it faces out of the gate. i got it, and i still enjoy it, but the ram decision will always be a bit of a disappointment to me.

^^^This^^^

I can't see myself ever going back to less than 4GB on an iOS device. I have photos app open, 7 safari tabs open all the time, listening to music, and then drawing and working with 2-5 very HQ large images in Procreate (20 more uploaded in the back.)
My only complaint is that lately my speakers seem a little quieter when watching Youtube or Netflix. When cranked up they are really loud, but darn YT and Netflix.
