I ultimately need 4gb RAM with the MBP that I am going to order today. I know that it is a price premium in getting extra RAM from Apple on initial order. My question is: Can I get compatible RAM for the new MBPs now? Is it the same RAM as past generation?

It's almost certainly the same. You might just want to hold off on ordering the RAM for a few days to confirm that (but go ahead and order your notebook). And it's a very easy upgrade to do yourself.

Great....i was hoping that was the case. So my assumption is that it is foolish to get a 4gb version as long as you are comofortable replacing RAM. Which I have done before on other machines.

$400 from Apple
$100 from 3rd party
