Indeed. I am not even sure why this is a discussion on a technical forum. It's as if the very mention of the word 4K brings out a scared and angry response, similar to when people saw the first car.

I wont be bringing up my personal flying machine anytime soon...

As in, you can see it from behind? :p IPS already gets 178/178 and those last 2 degrees are due to glass becoming highly reflective at those angles.

The whole "ATD is already retina" thing is a load of nonsense. There's a very simple acid test to tell if your display is "retina": turn on hiDPI at native res. (On the ATD this will be called "1280x720 HiDPI.") If things are too big, it's not retina.

Don't get hung up on the "20/20 vision can't see the pixels" definition, since it's viewer and environment dependent. The true definition of a retina display is that a pixel doubled UI will be a reasonable size on it.

u get my point. it was for a hypothetical lcd display. i just meant "great viewing angles." i dont think the last 2 degrees is the glass either since not all displays have glass like the MBP's or ACD's. nor do i care for the answer.

light. diodes.

oops.

there is no acid test for retina. it's just apple's "marketing hook" for high res display. you either have a high res display or you don't. you either have an iphone 3gs, which is not "retina" or an iphone 4s or newer which does; or, you either have a macbook pro or a macbook pro retina.

The true definition of a retina display is that a pixel doubled UI will be a reasonable size on it.

u don't need to define it because there is no such thing as a true definition of a retina display. why? because retina display is made up by apple to describe their new high res screens. the pixel double thing is just software to make text more readable in this high res screen.

If Apple really.....

support 4K displays in the new Pro and Mavericks, I suppose they can do 4K displays in a future. Can mantain two separate lines of products if they market the rumored Apple TV set. But Apple currently is bidding high in TB tech and iOS, so maybe can be a drought in terms of resources to put in new techonology. And Apple is not highly innovative as past times.....:(

Sky broadcasts to itself. That is actually more indicative of the problem than in a solution. There is no place to transmit this to but another megabucks installation.

Eventually it will come, but this is indicative of "no where to go".

I don't know why people hate 4K

It isn't so much 4K seeing a reaction to but the hype of 4K.

4k-8k?

Sports will drive 4k just as it did with HD. I believe ESPN is developing a channel for 4k now that they dropped their 3D channel.

I was at Best Buy the other day and the Sony 4K tv's have dropped around 1k from a month ago. 65" 4k LCD for $3999.

Camera manufactures such as Sony and Red are already talking 8k in the not to distant future.

I own a Canon 1DC that shoots 4k and I can say the video is incredible, I just wish I had the platform to 1) edit native, and 2) view it.

I sit at 20 inches from my 30" ACD. I can easily see the pixels and text looks like ****. 4K isn't a hype, it's quite real. Use a rMBP and then try to look at a regular Apple display.

You have to start somewhere. Of course you're going to see the hype following tech blogs, but when is the last time you saw a commercial advertising 4k? Also, the hype is justified as 4k is a huge improvement over what is being broadcast currently.
