    Price of 4K is dropping - Amazon has a 39" for $500

I am in market for a monitor for my MBP and wonder if a 4KTV is better than IPS monitor?

Not the best argument I have ever heard, but I agree totally. For Photo editing you can't beat an IPS Wide colour gamut matte screen monitor. Eizo or NEC if you have the budget, Dell if you don't.

TV panels ≠ monitor panels…. the quality difference in color plus the crappy post-processing on televisions in general, would make me say definitely 'no' to this notion.

    4K TV you mean?…. yes, it's worse.

For anything graphic intensive like photo editing you need - NEED - great color reproduction. Resolution and pixel count are over sold. The best photo editing monitors are from Eizo:

Very Good (You get what you pay for) Monitors
