I assume you mean that by "guaranteed on the spot" they could offer you whatever they want, 231 being the absolute highest based on like-new, out of the box condition. No scratches or anything. Next level down is 191, so that's considerably worse than nextworth, where is just needs to be functional, power on, and no cracked display.

My 4s is pristine so I would be shocked if they offer lower. And if they do, I'll refuse and send it to nextworth instead.

Yesterday I traded in a 16GB 4S to Best Buy for $215 and got a 5S. That was the highest price I had been quoted. Game Stop had quoted me $197 and some change earlier that day for cash or $231 for store credit.

If I buy a 5S online from Apple Store, can I then bring in my pristine 4S 32 GB and resell the 4S to Apple while they port my number from the 4S ATT to the new Apple online 5S Verizon phone for me?

The prices change at apples recycle and reuse program, but I've heard of people getting up to 200 on an apple store gift card to use towards the purchase of a new iPhone. Game stop has also been a popular choice and they'll just give you cash right out the register too.

That wouldn't work because with the recycle and reuse program, they put the value of your phone on an apple store gift card that must be used right then and there towards the purchase of a new phone. If you already pay for online, I doubt apple would just put the value of your phone on a gift card to just walk out with. But it never hurts to ask!

Too bad they won't. Seems like it's all the same to them..

I locked in gazelle at $205 for my wife's 32GB 4S. Took it to GameStop to see if I could get more and they gave me $233 in cash on Friday. Pain free.

"Quick and painless" would probably not be EB or CL, UNLESS you enjoy haggling with used car salesmen and spend lots of time in coffee shops anyways and can't wait to meet strangers.

Sold my 16gb 4s on Craigslist for $320

..... But this was about 2-3weeks pre launch for the 5s. I doubt anyone would be willing to shell out anymore than 250 at this point.

I find that hard to believe but if so, this is definitely an outlier. You can get an iPhone 5 for $400.

The easiest route of all would be to trade it in to Apple when you purchase your 5s.

Tons of other options out there though. Gazelle? BuyBackWorld? Craigslist?

BuyBackWorld and Gazelle both offer great service. I have used both, but BuyBackWorld pays more, so might as well use them.

Got an offer from Elegreen for $220 on mine, which was a few dollars higher than the Apple store offered. Best trade-in value I've seen. My phone is a pristine condition 16GB White 4S, ATT.

Gazelle and Amazon's Trade-in Programs are the quickest and easiest. You won't get as much money as ebay or craigslist but you will be able to get cash for it with the least hassle. Just make sure your phone is in great condition and you have the accessories that they require you send in to them. Gazelle will pay you with a check or PayPal, and Amazon will send you a gift card. Amazon usually gives more money back for phones than Gazelle.

Gazelle offered me $165 for my wife's verizon 4S 32gb. The apple store store offered me $168. Sold it to apple.

I sold my old iPhones to BuyBackWorld instead of Gazelle because BuyBackWorld almost always offers higher prices. I have used Gazelle's service in the past and it is good, but the prices will always be lower since they have to pay for so many TV Commercials. I've sold over a dozen devices to BuyBackWorld and never had any complaints and my wife and I most recently sold our iPhone 5 devices after upgrading to the 5S.

anybody try ebay? I see many 4S' selling north of $250 - $300 there. I will be putting mine for sale soon (32gb) and was curious about the eBay experience.

yes

Amazon Trade in I noticed gives more the gazelle

yes, at the time I locked in my 32gb att black iphone 4s, I got 268$ for it "like new"..I'm sending it in today..

MAN, was that the best screen of all iphones?
