Did you update to 5.0.1?
Mine was getting really hot after just a minute or two of using location services to navigate on a trip, which was the day I got the phone...fresh out of the box. Not scary hot, but uncomfortable.
After a couple days I had to use location services again to find my way back home, and noticed it was not getting hot this time around. This was a day after upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 so I wonder if that helped somehow.

Any iPhone gets a bit warm if you use it while plugged in, as well, but my 4S gets really steamy any time I use older electrical outlets (the plug adapter gets really hot in these cases too)
That I worry about....don't really want to melt something or light something on fire lol
