So to individuals who upgraded from the 4S, are you content with your 5S and would you do it again?

5s was very much worth the upgrade for me:

1. LTE. It's like having WIFI wherever you go.

2. Touch ID. I used to not have a password on my 4s since I wanted to quickly unlock my phone without having to punch in a password. Now I can have my phone completely secure with a full complex password (not just 4 random numbers) and can unlock it even faster than I could my 4s!

3. Better low light camera sensor w/ dual flash for better color accuracy.

4. Bigger screen for more viewing space, especially in landscape.

5. Faster 64-bit processor to be able to handle iOS 7 flawlessly and receive future 64-bit iOS upgrades long after the 4s becomes left for dead

6. Thinner, lighter design which still amazes me to this day.

7. Louder speaker for when I need to drown out my roommates so I can study or if I need to take a call while driving.

That being said... I would wait for the iPhone 6 unless you were desperate.

Just made the jump to 5S from 4S yesterday and will say it's a real noticeable upgrade, the speed in which apps open and load is the biggest benefit. The camera seems better in every aspect and the LTE was a major upgrade to me. Also went from Sprint to Tmobile and couldn't be happier with the speeds and call quality I'm getting now.

Hell yes, especially on Verizon. I was on 3G speeds. Had I been on AT&T, that might not have been as big of a deal since 3.5G is a bit faster. But now I'm on AT&T LTE, And it's usually zippy. I also went back up to a 32GB model from 16. Ouch. The camera improvements are great, including the flash. I like the larger screen. I love Touch ID. I have also used AirDrop to share photos with my parents' iPhone 5 phones.

As I will say time and again, usually you won't see too much reason to upgrade between each model. But every other model is compelling. The 5 was probably quite an upgrade, but most of us can easily wait the two years most people need to on subsidized contracts.

I agree with all that except for one thing in Australia, the 4S is a blue tick phone on our best/biggest network which means it has better hand held reception in rural areas. iPhone 5/5s is not.

So I told myself that I'm on the "S" cycle, having gone from 3GS to 4S previously, and that I would wait for the 5S which was sure to be a powerhouse.

This ^^^^^

I'm going to stop upgrading every year and just stick to the "S" cycle as well. After all, it's always the most powerful in the series.

I will be FULLY keeping my 5S for at least two years!!!

I've debated this as well. And I get iPhones from my employer so cost is of no relevance to me.

After playing with display models and with friends 5S's the only thing that interest me is LTE. Since I'm on Verizon their 3G is pretty slow.

Aside from that it has a bigger screen and Touch ID.

Software wise it's practically the same with the additions of AirDrop and slow mo.

I couldn't justify getting a 5S based on my usage and what it offers over the 4S.

At this point I'm going to get the 6 just for LTE and hope there are some other goodies that will benefit me.

My 4S power button was busted so I justified getting the 5S at launch by that. I just used my old 4S yesterday as an iPod when my 5S was charging and besides the terrible battery life, it actually runs pretty well. I kinda miss the smaller form factor too. I do really enjoy the speed, display, touch ID and camera but I don't necessarily NEED them. If I were you, I would probably just throw a battery case on there and wait until the next iPhone which will inevitably come out by the summer/fall.

Replacing the battery in an iPhone 4S is pretty easy. I've replaced mine twice (just cause) using a kit from ifixit.com. Comes with the batteries and tools to do it.
